Christmas 2008
We were able to head to California this year to visit my family for Christmas and we had a great time! It was so nice to spend some much needed time with my family, and it was also nice to see our close friends and extended family members too! On Christmas Eve, Jared and I along with my mom, dad, grandma, sisters, and brothers-in-law all piled into a rental van and headed on down to visit with some of our aunts, uncles, and cousins (Diane, Ross, Jen, Ray, Marcus, Regina, Nashae, Noah, Luke, Andrea, Woody, and Ashley). We had such a fun time with them, especially since it has been a while since we have been able to enjoy some quality time with all of them. Later on that week, I was able to connect with some of my close girlfriends and some friends from high school too! All in all, it was a great trip.
January 2009
The only major that has happened this month is that Jared and I ran the Houston half marathon with some of our Bible study group members!! This was actually a really crazy thing for us to do because we are not long distance runners and since I have started this Masters program we have not run that much at all. So the day of the half-marathon, we had not run in the past two months and total we had never run more than 5 miles at a time. So the idea of running 13.1 miles completely unprepared totally stressed me out. I honestly thought we would end up walking more than half of it and we were hoping to just finish within 4 hours. However, once we got out on the race track, the miles just seemed to fly by.
There were 18,000 people running that day and there were people lining almost the entire track who were cheering all the runners on as we ran by. Basically, we were so distracted by all the people and music that we really didn't notice that we were running. We ended up running most of the half marathon and only stopped to walk a few times. Our final time ended up being 2 hours and 39 minutes which was way better than we had anticipated. People have asked if we are going to be running half marathons again and as of now we are not planning on it, but if we do, we definitely won't do it unprepared again. We had a fun time, but like I said, we are not long distance runners so it is really not our cup of tea. When we actually find time to workout or whatever, we tend to stick to basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, baseball, exercising at the gym....pretty much everything except long distance running - haha!
In basic life news, nothing new is going on. Jared is in his second HVAC class, I am in my second Masters class, and both of us are still working at our same jobs. Life is good and we are just enjoying each day as it comes.
Here are some pics from Christmas and from the half-marathon...
