The Never-Ending Bathroom Project

When we first bought our 1960's fixer-upper home in March 2010, we knew that there was a lot of work to be done on it.  One of the first things I wanted to do was the bathrooms because quite frankly they were nasty, but other projects ended up being a higher priority.  After several months of living here we were able to save up enough to tackle the guest bath, which was a huge relief because it was the nastier bathroom.  The master bath was awful too, but not as bad as the guest bath.

Well, after living here for two years now and saving for the past a year, we finally got to start working on the master bath!  It's not finished yet and will probably end up taking a total of 2-3 wks when all is said and done (that's what happens when your hubby has to do everything by himself while working 40+ hrs a week and taking school classes), but Jared has made some really good progress, and I am so thankful for all his hard work and his mad-construction skills, yo!

Here are some pics of the project from last weekend and this weekend... (I'll post more pics when it's actually finished...maybe this weekend?).

BEFORE:

DAY # 1 

(tear out old vanity, sink, and mirror ... tear down wall, replace plumbing, rent jackhammer to allow access to drain, fix/replace drain, fill hole with new cement and rocks, replace shower fixtures in the adjoining guest bath shower, make tons of trips to Lowe's and Ace)

DAY # 2

(tear out old wood beams, put in new wood beams, install new drywall, make tons of trips to Ace Hardware, install new medicine cabinet, move electrical outlet to side wall, raise the electrical fixture for the lights, install new light fixture hardware, and separate the light and fan into two switches instead of one)

DAY # 3

(putty and caulk the new drywall areas, texture spray, paint)

(we started writing verses on walls and cement in our home, during projects, when we first started working on our house two years ago. We have so many issues that come up with this old house and it's our way of asking God to help us and protect our home from problems.)

DAYS 4 & 5

(final touch ups on plumbing stuff, prep and install base of vanity, install and paint baseboard, prep and install sink/countertop, caulk)

TO DO:  

Order and install new toilet, order and install new mirror, paint ceiling, install and paint crown molding, order new blinds

Our bathrooms are just tiny little bathrooms, but they needed soooo much work just to get them to look like normal, modern bathrooms.  Poor Jared did 90% of it all by himself too (thank you to his friend Terry for helping with day 1 and 2).  We have not even started talking about doing new bath/showers, tiling the bath/shower walls, and doing new doors/door casings yet....that will have to be a future project.  For now, the bathrooms' walls (wood, plumbing, drywall), vanities, toilets, mirrors, light fixtures, painting (ceiling and walls), and crown molding will be finished!
